Not all those who wander are lost... - J.R.R. Tolkien

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain

Uffizi, San Valentino e Cioccolato!

I haven't posted in a while, so I want to do a quick recap of the time between my last post and this past weekend.  The weekend before Valentine's Day was very low key- there was an Insider's Florence day trip to the Uffizi on Friday.  I hadn't had the chance to go yet, so I was very excited.   It was unreal, to say the least.  I had been to a few museums in America, but I never really had an appreciation for what I was looking at.  Here, however, I was standing among masterpieces of art history by Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, and many other greats.  My absolute favorite was the Birth of Venus.  I walked in the room and had to catch my breath- gazing upon this beautiful work of art left me absolutely awestruck.  I don't know much about art, but I can appreciate the beauty and the unbelievable skill it takes for artists to create such amazing pieces.  The trip only lasted about an hour and a half, so we only saw the main rooms, but I will be making sure I return by the end of the semester to explore more of this museum.

This year's San Valentino was one of the best Valentine's Day I've had because for the first time in my life, I didn't care that I was single.  My friend Sam and I started our day off by going to have an American breakfast at The Diner.  It was amazing.  I love Italian food, but I miss American breakfasts so much.  I had American coffee, french toast, bacon, and homefries.  I was in heaven.  After classes, we went to the chocolate festival with our friend Margi, and after dinner I Skyped with one of my best friends from Miami.

 American Coffee!

sooooo good.

The chocolate festival... how do I even begin to put into words the wonderfulness of the chocolate festival?  It was any chocolate lovers dream come true.  There were stands upon stands filled with different types of chocolates- truffles, chocolate covered nuts, chocolate in the shape of shoes, chocolate in the shape of tools...anything you can imagine, there was a stand that had it.  Because I had gotten chocolate bars in Perugia, I limited myself to buying chocolate covered nuts and chocolate covered fruit.  It was AMAZING.

I will be posting about this past weekend (my first big trip) within the next few days, so stay tuned!
Baci e Abbracci!  xoxo
